Year 5
In Year 5 we welcome the children to the Upper School, where we focus on developing confidence, independence, resilience and enquiring minds to equip them with the skills that they will need for their Year 5 journey and beyond. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe to ask questions, learn together through open discussions and experience fun and engaging lessons. As we build on the strong foundations set from their time in the Lower School, all staff are passionate about driving the children to ‘reach for the stars’ and challenge themselves, through experiences such as our fantastic residential trip to Lea Green, to exploring and investigating evidence to discover whether historical tales are based on truth or myth.
As with previous years, we continue with the Power Maths scheme for developing mathematical thinking and understanding, as well as using a range of short films to inspire creative writing. We continue to explore a range of topics including Space, Mountains, Rivers, The Shang Dynasty and the history of York through the ages, to name a few. We also love to encourage the children to perform and they will have opportunities to do this within our Christmas production; producing and editing their own film clips within our computing lessons; as well as when having the opportunity to explore and perform with musical instruments through the Wider Opportunities Music Programme.
We look forward to welcoming your child into Year 5 and are excited to celebrate their learning journey with you!
