Sport
At Hasland Junior School, we want to facilitate the opportunity for children to engage in a range of sporting events and extra-curricular activities.
We follow the Youth Sport Trust 'Competition For All' model. The purpose of this is to create positive experiences for all children and young people to encourage life-long enjoyment and engagement in physical activity. We aim to understand and meet the motivations, competence and confidence of the young people that we educate, targeting the children who need it most to improve their physical literacy, social, emotional and physical well-being. These events are categorised into ‘Move, Think, Feel, Connect and Compete’. Further explanation can be found below.
- Think events build cognitive thinking skills, decision making and understanding strategies.
- Feel events support emotional confidence, resilience and regular.
- Connect events encourage teamwork, communication and social development.
- Move events focus on physical fitness, coordination and fundamental movement skills.
- Compete events foster healthy competition which is also key to a young person’s physical literacy which is why this aspect is promoted through our Compete events that inspire personal growth, belonging and a sense of achievement.
Additionally, we also have a popular extra-curricular timetable which is also available to view on our website. Qualitative studies have found that extra-curricular activities give young people the confidence to interact socially with others, extend their social networks beyond existing friendship groups and provide them with new skills and abilities. Some also perceive them as important for their long-term career aspirations as well as useful in building stronger university and job applications. Above all, young people see extra-curricular activities as a chance to have fun, unwind and relieve the stresses of an ever-evolving childhood.
I hope you enjoy keeping up to date with the sporting success of our pupils.
