Religious Education
At Hasland Junior School, we believe that the learning of RE provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for our pupils. The world in which we live is currently facing many challenges and the need to understand and accept others cultures and beliefs has never been more important. A greater understanding of others fosters an environment of acceptance and respect both in and out of school.
Our RE curriculum covers all the major religions and combines direct teaching with debate, questioning and the sharing of personal experiences in a safe and secure manner. We provide children with opportunities to relate what they are learning to the wider world and the events which occur in them. The teaching of RE also develops children’s communication skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing, which support all areas of the curriculum.
We believe that RE is an essential part of children’s learning and provides a platform for developing a new and broader perspective of the world, encouraging them to understand their own cultures and those of others. This then feeds into our focus on global learning. In order to further promote this, we offer the children the chance to participate in trips to local places of worship including churches, mosques and the Gurdwara.
